Broad picks out Morkel in the deep with unerring accuracy. 133/8. 'Abject' says Bumble. It ain't that good mate.

Wood walks to wicket and immediately walks away again. Caught in the slips. Since the start of the India tour that's one win, one draw and five defeats. Of the defeats one by 200 plus, one by 300 plus and two by an innings. And Anderson hangs out his bat and it's all over while I'm writing that. Beaten by 340. Was that a hard enough test for you Joe ? A lot to think about.

Is it me, or are England more afflicted by all the 'hit out or get out' cricket than some other countries. And Beefy makes my crack about the golf course.

What a miserable day, I'm just glad that I was in school today (I had last Thursday off instead) so didn't have to watch it!

I felt for you David, I was in two minds whether to come along today myself. Who do you think will be in and out for the Oval test.

I only bowled 3 balls on Saturday and took 2 wickets. I'm not going to comment on the 6 runs I made before getting out to a fine low catch to a hard hit cover drive. Still better than watching England on the fourth day of this Test.

Jennings and Ballance must removed from the batting line up but I dont think they will. Wood is a doubt with an injury and Dawson just isn't good enough. We are certainly a batter light, so a batsman from Dawson and Roland-Jones as he was 12th man for Wood who's injured. Who comes to the middle order to strengthen it is anyone guess, Denly? Bell to return? Not sure? Hameed looked a class act before injury but has completely lost form since his injury.

Good news for us England cricket fans but maybe for Ballance as it appears he's broken a finger and seeing an ortho specialist in Leeds tonight, so that's him and Wood for the next test.
Despite how poor England all the staff at Trent Bridge were superb as ever. They've now pretty much stopped those awful flimsy plastic pint pots and have gone with a much firmer alternative which you pay an extra pound when you get your first one and you take it back, get a fresh one everytime but get your pound back when you hand it and stop drinking. Only downside no more beer snakes!

I just watched my first bit of Le Tour, won by Primoz Roglic, Chris Froome 3rd, taking a four-second bonus.

Well impressed.

Froome has seen off Aru, last day in the mountains tomorrow with an uphill finish on Col d'Isoard. With his team to help through the next two days and a time trial on Saturday it's his to lose but he looks to have done more than enough. 169 still going.

Just watched the opening shots from The Open at Birkdale, Mark O'Meara first up at 6:35 hits it straight out of bounds and takes 8 on the par 4. Nice Summer day on the West coast, wet and breezy.

Nice few days of good telly golf starting today. I have a few bob on Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood to win and and e/w bet on former winner here Padraig Harrington.

Cricket: Tom Westley replaces Ballance in the line-up for the next Test. Jennings and Dawson somehow stay in the squad which is made up to 13 by Dawid Malan.
Cycling: Froome survives the last day in the mountains with 23 seconds to spare over Bardet. Odds of around 1/25 make him unbackable now, the only conceivable danger being Rigoberto Uran who at least knows his way round a time trial.

Breakaway day at Le Tour and Edvald Boasson Hagen gets a well deserved stage win. No change in the GC and the fat lady can start warming up.

Jordan Speith leads The Open by 3 from Matt Kuchar. The best English and British players can do is tied 11th at the moment. In fact the best European is only tied 7th. 3 Americans and a Canadian make up top 3 and ties.
