Interesting stuff Peter. As I think a number of my posts have made clear in the past few months Jackson became demonised far too early. I think he made a rod for his own back in many ways, but as somebody who didn't fully buy the hype I tried to look through it.

I don't think it would have been much of a season had Jackson stayed - but I don't think we would have gone down either. Those who claimed Sutton has "saved us" I think are being misguided.

That said, I think there has been improvement in some ways under Sutton but how much of it is tangible improvement for Lincoln City? A few young Premiership players have got a bit more experience, but being completely selfish - what's in it for us?

I like Sutton but he still has plenty to prove as a manager.

A further reason why I feel sorry for Jackson was that he was unable to persuade most of the players he wanted to stay to sign new contracts. The two summers he was here I'm pretty sure none of the players he offered contracts to re-signed. We lost a lot of quality during that time - Forrester, Dany, Freck etc. It was especially a problem with the strikers as we have been continually trying to replace Forrester and Stallard for over 3 years now. He didn't help himself falling out with Patulea, and the release of Wright may well come back to haunt us.

I do feel that the squad he assembled at the start of the season was worse than the one we have now, but I do think it may well have obtained a few points more than we have now as we would have played a more basic no frills style with players like Kerr and Kovacs to the fore.
