In many ways at this level I'd rather have a Nat Brown style player in my midfield than a luxury player like Scott Oakes. We would lose less games if we were more solid in there and I'd say Nat was a fair bet to score more goals in a season thatn Oakes, if played in midfield.
I remember Keith saying that he wasn't too disappointed when Butcher and Gain (two fine players) left because they had only scored 2 goals between them the previous season and he needed more goals from his midfield pair. I think that during the following season Brwon and kerr(?) got about 12 goals. They weren't as good to watch as B&G but they were effective for a season.
