Melton Mowbray Station??
Just joking! Get there early would be my advice. I travel from near Huntungdon but have the luxury of a car park season ticket!
If I was in Melton I would be going to Peterborough first on the train to get to Lincoln!!!
But, I am in Sheffield and it is cheaper for me to drive to Lincoln than pay the silly high price of 13 pounds for an hour journey!
Quite! The public transport system in this country is a laughing stock, especially the railways which are overpriced, underfunded, with trains that are seldom on time and often overcrowded selling food and drink at exhorbitant prices too! It is now, as you say, cheaper for one person to travel by car than by train!
I recently needed to get from Sleaford to Brighton and decided to investigate the train. I reckoned I could have driven to Brighton and back TWICE for the amount they were asking.
At least when it was British Rail you knew who to blame. I'm afraid de-regulation has just allowed everybody to point the finger at everybody else and there is no real accountability.
