Just needed to say that first so nobody accuses me of anything. But, a question aimed at some posters on this board.

Please could you point out how much progress we have made this season? I haven't read a good fantasy for years.

Zilch...

We've got (another) new manager. Will he be a very good manager? I do hope so.

Indeed they might... but...

The Thinker has gained some support with his most recent posts; there will perhaps come a time when he is no longer villified...

He may have a point every so often, but it's the way he goes about it.

Personally, we made progress last season when Jackson came in. Clearly.

The signings haven't been good though. We still look dodgy at the back and we are not right up front.

So, no, we haven't really made progress this season. We're still the same old inconsistent feeble side.

I don't think a change of manager is the right thing at this moment in time. I would give him another summer which, I think, is what most people on here have been saying, Clanger.

However, if he decided to walk or if someone came in for him, I don't think I would lose any sleep.

He likes you...

You keep rattling on about us making progress, we're not bottom of the league because 3 teams have had points deductions and quite a few others have lowered there spending due to this. The team plays poorly in 85% of the games, Jacko is earning more than Schofield, gates are low, Freck has gone, N'Guessan and Beevers will almost certainly go, the replacements aren't very good and who's gonna be stupid enough to believe Jacko's pre-season tishe/hype and buy a season ticket? As for the progress off the pitch, that was paid for by Jack Hobbs sale I believe, so stuff your progress there hasn't been any.

Don't blame Jacko for yesterday. So many simple chances were missed.
We should heve been 3-1 up at half time, an air kick by O'Connor and Danny's one-on one should have made the net bulge. We were that much better than them it was ridiculous.

Second half was closer as far as possession was concerned. Beevers could not cope with their winger and generally backed off and backed off. He had a head injury and should have gone off. Wright and patulea missed chances in front of goal and Danny hit the ball at the keeper when it was harder not to score.

To win games you have to take your easier chances; we didn't, they did, end of.

We wouldn't be bottom without the deuctions, we'd be 16th.

The team plays poorly in 85% of the games, Jacko is earning more than Schofield, gates are low...

I have no idea what Jacko is on. But let's not forget most fans welcomed his appointment as a decent manager at this level who was not "the cheap option"

Freck has gone, N'Guessan and Beevers will almost certainly go,

Players come, players go. Surely it's good news that we're getting a decent fee for Freck and possibly Dani (both of whom cost us nothing to sign)? Beevers imho is nothing but an average Div 4 defender, anyway.

the replacements aren't very good...

Not me - but then I didn't last time. Times are tough, but we're still not badly placed financially compared to a lot of teams.

Didn't say we would be bottom, merely pointed out that the majority of the league is carp, and were doing mediocre in it.

Yes well, that all makes up for the fact were paying him a fair wedge for no improvement. Don't think Schofield's accomadations cost would of been that much on Doddy Park either.

Don't think the fee for Freck has been disclosed has it? We'll get the minimum for Dany, of which the anti-christ will take there cut. Beevers cost us £50,000 I seem to remember.

We don't have any replacements yet. That's what the summer is for.

So what was Oakes, Gall, Brown (who's done ok), Sinclair and Graham, not mentioning Horsfield and Elding who haven't exactly shone? Burch is good coming for the ball but gets out of position too often, still a bit better than the Vidal Sasoon boy.

We may be a bit dodgy when the crowds keep dropping, of course we could always call on the youth players to bolster the squad, oh no hang on, Jacko peeed most of them off as well!

Do you class one youth player “most of them” unless there are others that are disgruntled that you know about and we don't?

I wouldn't say they are disgruntled, but they are probably far from gruntled!

I think that 5/6 weeks ago when this question first came up I had reasonable hopes of a top 10 finish, which would have represented limited progress from last season. Obviously, we have imploded a little since then and I think it is fair to say that nearly all of us would view this season as a wasted opportunity.

We are woefully inconsistent, have little or no team spirit and rely way too much on one or two very good players. Jacko has made mistakes in the transfer market with only Brown being an unqualified success. Burch and Kovacs have shown potential, Gall was just awful, Oakes is not the player we needed, Graham was a gamble that failed, Sinclair has gone a season too far as has Horsfield (probably), Mullarkey and Swaibu are young and raw. However, I don't remember too many people saying that he had not spent well before the start of the season. At the end of the day you can see the logic in most of the signings but, for whatever reason, they haven't gelled as a team.

Jacko and the board knows that they must get it right next year as the finances will not take another average season. I think it is clear that crowds are a good 25% down on what the board would have budgetted for and, as always, we have not had a decent cup run to make up for it. The credit crunch and economic downturn have had a big effect too. The sale of Frecklington and the likely sale of Dany will balance the books this year but the playing budget is unlikely to be as generous for next season.

James - your use of phrases such as Board-sychophants and bum-lickers really do not enhance your arguments. The board have brought in a manager who, by common consent, was a very good choice 18 months ago. They have backed him with hard cash and off field support. They have worked hard to diversify our income and bring other people onto the Board. I'd like to know what else they could have done that would have satisfied you. Perhaps you'd rather our Board behave like the boards of clubs like Chester, Darlo and all the others who spend way more than they can afford to "live the dream"?

Its been a disappointing season. Jacko has probably made it worse but overhyping it but that is his style and he is clever and professional enough to know he has to get his head down and get it right next term or he will be another failed Imps manager. I am prepared to give him that chance.
