How very sad, I can't pretend that I know him other than reading these message board but I feel like I've lost somebody I knew. My condolences to his family, R.I.P.

I had a number of run-ins with him over the years and we rarely saw eye to eye, but this is sad news indeed. Thoughts with his family and friends.

He was a great character and even though he was very ill over the last year he would always help out with anything.
Very sad news indeed.

God, let ye rest in peace.

Dean, I am very sorry to hear this news. A great loss to all who follow the Imps.

We've got (another) new manager. Will he be a very good manager? I do hope so.

Sad news. I had never met him personally and whilst we often held differing opinions he seemed a reasonable man who was capable of seeing other viewpoints. I remember him from Shanes site back in the day when I first began posting on such sites and he was always passionate in his support for Lincoln.

Very saddened to hear this news. I knew Craig had been ill for a very long time, and he was good friends with my dad before he passed a couple of years ago. Craig was one of the first to offer me his condolences and continually offered words of support through private messages on this forum. My thoughts are with his family. I hope you and my old man can catch up some time soon Craig.

RIP.

Taken from vitals

Obituary Craig Duncan Baker 1949-2010

On June 6th 1949 Craig Duncan Baker the youngest of three boys was born to a proud hardworking family in the Sincil Bank area of Lincoln. Though he could not fail to be mesmerised by the fantastic man made structure atop the hill it would be the citadel nestled in amongst the tight terraced houses with tightly packed terraces of its very own, that would really inspire. Craig`s spiritual home would be the football club at the heart of the community, for Lincoln born, Lincoln bred Craig would be an Imp until he be dead.

A popular member of St Peter At St Gowts infants and junior School football teams the boy Baker a stocky no nonsense midfielder then went to Sincil Bank Secondary modern continuing to live amongst and rub shoulders with the heroes he worshiped every other Saturday at a packed Sincil Bank. Who could not fail to fall for the Imps then in our heyday with Garvie, Graver, Jimmy Munroe and later Roy Chapman strutting their stuff. With jumpers for goalposts the young lads of Lincoln would emulate their heroes in the streets. Indeed he was a promising player and trialed at the Imps before being briefly signed for our great Lincolnshire rivals Grimsby Town as a schoolboy.

A giving person Craig found his true vocation in psychiatric nursing training at Harmston and St Johns hospitals whilst bringing up a family of three children. He finished up as a staff nurse working at Sfrontbottomhorpe Hospital after St Johns closed in 1988 then took retirement and became a publican. The Lark pub on Newport was transformed into a City shrine and painted out in city colours. It offered good food and a well known carvery as well as a home from home for Imps. Alas due to an inclement brewery and the smoking ban a bankruptcy followed. Apart from his divorce this would be the lowest point in his life.

Craig however was bestowed with a grit that would always ensure he battled back from adversity. Having defeated cancer twice, having a history of angina diabetes and bad circulation he never stopped helping people in the whole time I knew him. He had seen his elder brothers suffer and even when he moved to Bridlington to be closer to his daughter Rachael he still had more to give helping to look after his grandson recently in their time of need.

Craig is survived by his three children and his brother Bruce. His elder brother Ian died seven years ago but his surviving brother Bruce, himself crippled due to a brain haemorrhage and two strokes in January 1999, bravely bit back the tears to help me write this. Incredibly he joined our forum today just to thank all the posters who have paid their respects. He knew how much we mattered to him and how Vital this site was to him and his fellow Imps. Indeed it was Craig who talked me into staying on recently and I`ll stay and keep that promise mate - no worries.

From a babe up until our great win against Torquay five days ago he would live for Saturday. Craig, arguably saw us safe just as he did when he dragged his older brothers up to the Bank to experience the great escape of 57/58 when the Imps won our last 5 to rewrite the obituaries. Oh that I could do that for you in return for all you have done for so many of your peers, great Imp and mate.

RIP Craig Baker
Craig The Exile CTE.

That is sad news

Like several others, didn't know him in person, but got to know him a little through an earlier version of this board (I seem to remember him once sending me a pic of Bob Cumming to use as my avatar). Didn't always agree with his viewpoint, but seemed a decent chap.

RIP Craig.

Agree with all the above, although I did not know him I enjoyed his post even though I did not always again with his point of view. He also created an avatar for me as well! RIP Craig

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
