Imps forced to make three changes. Shane Kerr is suspended and replaced by Shane Clarke, Clark Keltie replaced Steve Lennon who has a groin strain. Nathan Baker starts in central defence which means Paul Green is back at right back and Cian Hughton is pushed forward and Paul Connor is back on the subs bench.

Not a good birthday present so far. C'Mon Lincoln!

3 wins in the last 16, not what I expect from the 'Chessman'.

Some people still blaming Jackson as well. This is now Sutton's side.

3 centre forwards on the bench and we play Herd up front out of position. Why couldn't we put him in midfield and drop Clarke?

I do like that one.

Others I like include ...

Sutton is averaging 0.23 points less per game in charge than Jackson did in his time here which equates to 10 and a half more points a season.

Sutton's side have taken 34 points from 30 games, it took Jackson 8 games less to do the same when he took over from Schofield. Our goal difference over those 30 games with Jackson was 0, Sutton's is -11.

Hughton and Gilmour aside who have scored 5 between them this calender year, just 3 of the other 16 goals scored have been by players contracted by the club and not on loan.

They're a few more depressing goal scoring facts.

Less than 50% of our league goals scored this season in the league have been by full time Imps (not a loanee) and an even smaller percentage (24%) have been scored by current full time Imps since Fagan's away in Spain (and Kovacs & Jamie Clarke have gone) and Hughton's responsible for almost half of that 24%.

I am. I thought he was given the bullet quite early and much like TGD, I thought he was beginning to shape a more youthful side which needed some time to blend together before we needed to expect performances. Although he is to blame for generating it, I did feel for him that so many people bought the hype though you can argue that on paper, the hype was justified with some of his signings (Gall aside) last season though his bigger purchases (Sinclair & Oakes) just didn't perform.

Anyway, a few more ...

Allegedly one of the main reasons why Jackson got the bullet was our poor home form and performances and one of the reasons why we're staying up is our 'stellar' home form under Sutton.

Sutton's averaging 0.02 points more per home game than Jackson did in his time here. We did actually score more goals per game under Jackson at home though we did also concede more per game. Sutton's GD is -1, Jackson's was -4.

For the same amount of time spent at the club, Jackson's side scored more goals, conceded more but did have a better goal difference of a whole goal. Points wise, Jackson's side had more points after his first 15 home games than Sutton did.

The away form comparison is dire. A miserable 0.87 points per game for Sutton and a respectable 1.33 for Jackson so near on half a point more per game.

Goals wise - we're scoring less goals per game under Sutton whilst conceding more and the goal difference is 8 goals worse now than under Jackson.

Interesting stuff Peter. As I think a number of my posts have made clear in the past few months Jackson became demonised far too early. I think he made a rod for his own back in many ways, but as somebody who didn't fully buy the hype I tried to look through it.

I don't think it would have been much of a season had Jackson stayed - but I don't think we would have gone down either. Those who claimed Sutton has "saved us" I think are being misguided.

That said, I think there has been improvement in some ways under Sutton but how much of it is tangible improvement for Lincoln City? A few young Premiership players have got a bit more experience, but being completely selfish - what's in it for us?

I like Sutton but he still has plenty to prove as a manager.

One argument that I have seen banded about is that Sutton has a better eye for talent than Jackson did and the acquisitions of some of the loan players would back this argument up.

You do have to wonder how many of these acquisitions have been his own and how many have come from O'Neill, Hodgson, Walter Smith etc recommending a player to him.

From what I’ve read and been told (I’m yet to witness him actually play) it would appear that Joe Anderson hasn’t really set the world on fire.

Sadly, it’s going to be another summer of rebuilding. Let’s just hope expectations levels of some aren’t ridiculous and Sutton is able to mould a side together rather than any snap decisions being made early on in the season if we happen to struggle.

Khano Smith? Gordon? Keltie? His permanent signings have yet to inspire, tbh.

Indeed. Although tbh all managers use contacts, and I don't especially mind that if he can keep it up.

No better (and possibly worse so far) than Green at right-back.

Sadly, it’s going to be another summer of rebuilding. Let’s just hope expectations levels of some aren’t ridiculous and Sutton is able to mould a side together rather than any snap decisions being made early on in the season if we happen to struggle.

Yep. I'd settle for 13th - 15th. Which are ironically where Jackson managed to place us.
